SPRING WEATHER & HOME PEST PREVENTION

Sydney weather change: a 26-second home pest check

A weather shift is not proof of a pest problem. It is a useful prompt to check the everyday conditions that make activity harder to spot: food, rubbish, drainage and accessible gaps.

A warm day followed by cloud and showers can change how a home feels, but the weather alone cannot diagnose an infestation. This short video focuses on the simple conditions worth checking before a small concern becomes a recurring one.

Video transcript

Warm days followed by a wet change are a good time for a quick pest check. Sydney is moving from a 29 degree day into cloud and weekend showers. Use the change as a reminder: seal food, empty indoor bins, clear leaves from drains, and check door seals and pipe gaps. If ants, cockroaches or rodents keep returning, Uncle Bugs can assess the right next step. Text 0411 314 731 or visit unclebugs.com.au.

Use the local forecast as a reminder, not a diagnosis

This page was prepared on 1 October 2026, when Sydney was forecast to move from a warm day into cloud and weekend showers. Forecasts change, and weather alone cannot tell you whether a particular home has pests. Check the current Sydney forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology, then look at what is actually happening around your property.

Four quick checks for the next dry window

  1. Food and indoor bins. Put pantry goods into closed containers, wipe visible crumbs and close bins. Put pet food away after feeding.
  2. Ground-level drains. When safe, remove loose leaves near accessible drains. Leave roof gutters, damaged covers and blocked drainage to the appropriate tradesperson.
  3. Door seals and pipe gaps. Look for visibly worn door sweeps, damaged screens and gaps around accessible service pipes. Do not block required ventilation or drainage openings.
  4. Damp areas. Check accessible cupboards, under-sink spaces and plant saucers. Record persistent dampness and report leaks; renters should contact the property manager before altering the property.

These are prevention checks, not a treatment plan. They do not identify an unknown pest or guarantee a pest-free property.

When to ask for practical advice

Record where and when activity repeats. If ants, cockroaches or rodents keep returning, damaged food packaging appears, or the likely entry point is inaccessible, a clear photo, your suburb and the affected room give a pest professional a useful starting point. Avoid mixing products or treating blindly.
